Study on Grape Forcing by Vinyl House

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the possibility of shortening the harvest season of grape by vinyl (Polyethylene film) house both at Suwon and Taejon districts from February 15 to the end of September in 1968.
Two varieties, Campbell Early and Schuyler, were covered with only a sheet of vinyl of 0.04§® (in thickness) on February 15 and March 1.
The results are summarized as follows:
1. The vinyl-covering culture of grape in Taejon and Suwon shortened the sprouting, blossoming and harvest season for 13.3 to 25 days.
2. Economically, it is more favorable to cover with vinyl on about March 1 rather than February 15 in the point of preventing vinyl from tearing and making the work more convenient.
3. Schuyler was better fitted than Campbell Early in vinyl house culture, but it was weaker than Campbell Early in transportation.
4. A mount of the input and the gross profit per 10 a. were 251,042 Won and 585,710 Won, respectively. In this case the net income was 334,668 Won.
5. Campbell Early was unsuitable for vinyl-house culture without heating apparatus both in Taejon and Suwon districts.
6. Schuyler is a little weak in cold-resistance, therefore the covering with soil must be done within November.
7. The maturing period of Taejon was more than seven days earlier than that of Suwon district in vinyl-house culture. This Indicates that Taejon is more favorable for vinyl-house culture than Suwon district.
8. Proper removing season of vinyl-house is June 10,
9. A cold damage of low temperature was found on the beginning of April in case of lacking apparatus for heating.
10. The variety, Schuyler which was covered with vinyl was able to be harvested from July 3 to July 20.
